Welcoming Remarks

PRESIDENT OF IKM

Datuk ChM. Dr. Soon Ting Kueh

President
Institut Kimia Malaysia

On behalf of the Institut Kimia Malaysia (IKM), it is my great pleasure to extend a warm welcome to all delegates, speakers, and participants to the 1st MYCN Online Symposium. This inaugural event represents an important milestone for the Malaysian Young Chemists Network (MYCN) and reflects the continued commitment of the chemical community towards advancing knowledge, innovation, and professional excellence.

The theme of this symposium, “Frontiers in Chemistry: Emerging Trends and Applications”, is both timely and highly relevant in today’s rapidly evolving landscape. Chemistry remains a central enabler of progress, underpinning solutions in energy transition, sustainable materials, environmental protection, healthcare, and advanced technologies. As the frontiers of chemistry continue to expand, it is essential that scientific advancement is guided not only by innovation, but also by responsibility, ethics, and sustainability.

IKM remains steadfast in its vision to advance the chemical sciences for the benefit of the nation and society at large, while upholding the highest standards of professionalism, ethical conduct, and responsible practice. In an era where sustainability and environmental stewardship are no longer optional, chemists have a critical role to play in ensuring that scientific progress aligns with societal needs and long-term sustainability goals. Platforms such as this symposium help cultivate awareness, accountability, and innovation within the profession.

I would like to commend the MYCN Organising Committee for their dedication and effort in successfully organising this symposium in an online format, enabling wider participation and inclusivity. I encourage all participants to actively engage in the sessions, exchange ideas openly, and build meaningful professional connections.

With that, I wish everyone a productive, insightful, and successful symposium.

Thank you.

CHAIRWOMAN OF MYCN

السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ ٱللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ  and warm greetings.

On behalf of the Malaysian Young Chemists Network of the Institut Kimia Malaysia (MYCN-IKM), it is my great pleasure to welcome you to the 1st MYCN Symposium 2026, themed “Frontiers in Chemistry: Emerging Trends and Applications”. As an online symposium, this inaugural event brings together young chemists, researchers, educators, and industry stakeholders across borders, reflecting the increasingly global and connected nature of the chemical sciences.

This symposium marks an important milestone for MYCN in providing a dedicated platform to empower early-career chemists and young professionals. Chemistry continues to be a key driver of innovation and solutions to global challenges, from sustainability and health to advanced materials and emerging technologies. Through this symposium, we aim to highlight emerging scientific frontiers, encourage interdisciplinary exchange, and bridge fundamental research with real-world applications.

I would like to express my sincere appreciation to our partners, sponsors, and the organising committee for their dedication and support in making this event possible. Your contributions play a vital role in strengthening the young chemists’ ecosystem in Malaysia and beyond.

To all participants, I encourage you to engage actively throughout the sessions, connect with fellow chemists, and take full advantage of this platform for learning and collaboration. May this symposium inspire new ideas, foster lasting partnerships, and reaffirm our shared commitment to advancing chemistry responsibly and sustainably. With that, I warmly welcome you to the 1st MYCN Symposium 2026 and wish everyone a rewarding and inspiring symposium.

Assoc. Prof. ChM Dr. Fatimah binti Salim
Chairwoman
Malaysian Young Chemists Network (MYCN)
Institut Kimia Malaysia (IKM)

CHAIRMAN OF 1ST MYCN ONLINE SYMPOSIUM

It is my pleasure to welcome all participants to the 1st Malaysian Young Chemists Network (MYCN) Symposium, held virtually.

This inaugural symposium brings together young chemists, early-career researchers, and professionals from across the chemical sciences to connect, exchange ideas, and learn from one another. As the first event of its kind under MYCN, we hope it marks the beginning of a strong, supportive, and forward-looking community of young chemists in Malaysia.

The programme has been thoughtfully designed to encourage knowledge sharing, discussion, and collaboration, featuring a diverse range of topics and speakers. Although the symposium is conducted online, we hope it will remain highly engaging and interactive, providing meaningful opportunities for professional growth and networking.

I would like to thank our invited speakers and moderators for sharing their expertise, as well as the organising committee for their commitment and hard work. My sincere appreciation also goes to all participants for your enthusiasm and support in making this inaugural symposium possible.

I hope this symposium inspires fresh ideas, new connections, and productive discussions. With that, I warmly welcome you to the 1st Malaysian Young Chemists Network (MYCN) Symposium and wish you an enjoyable and rewarding experience.
